Constitution
Article I: Name
The organization shall be called the Westmoore Book Club.
Article II: Purpose
The purpose of the book club is to promote life-long love of reading.
Article III: Membership
Section 1: Membership is open to any student at Westmoore High School with a desire to read for knowledge and enjoyment.
Section 2: No dues will be required for membership in this club.
Section 3: A member must attend 70% of the meetings to be considered a member in good standing.
Article IV: Officers
Section 1: The officers of this club shall be: president, vice president, and secretary/treasurer.
Section 2: Each term of office will be for one academic-calendar year.
Section 3: Officers must behave appropriately, actively participate in all club meetings/activities, and adhere to school rules.
Section 4: Any officer who performs their duties unsatisfactorily may be removed from office by a majority vote of the members or by a sponsor if deemed necessary.
Section 5: The president shall be the chief executive of the club and shall preside at all the meetings. The president shall plan, organize and run the meetings. The president shall meet with the sponsor prior to regular meetings to determine necessary items for discussion.
Section 6: The vice president assumes the president’s duties in the absence of the presidents. If the president resigns or is removed from office, the vice president will assume the office of president.
Section 7: The secretary / treasurer shall handle all correspondence and record keeping including attendance and minutes. The secretary / treasurer will track all financial information if money is ever collected. The person holding this office will also be responsible for all social media for the club.
Section 8: Elections will be held during the last meeting of the year.
Article V: Sponsor
Section 1: The sponsor of this club shall be a Westmoore librarian or teacher.
Section 2: The role of the sponsor is to facilitate district-approved book discussions, oversee club activities and provide guidance to the club officers.
Section 3: Members will sign up to discuss their books via Canvas one day prior to the meeting.
Article VI: Meetings
Section 1: Meetings will be held after school bi-monthly in the Westmoore library.
Section 2: Members will take turns discussing district-approved books they have recently read. The person with the microphone has permission to speak.
Section 3: Members must be courteous and listen to the viewpoints of others. Disagreements are okay, but rudeness will not be tolerated.
Section 4: Every member of the group shall have an equal opportunity to contribute to the school-appropriate club discussion. No one person shall monopolize the conversation. Stay on topic.
Article VII: Amendments
This constitution may be amended at any regular meeting by a majority vote of the present members, provided it is school appropriate and has been read to the group before the vote.
The Westmoore Book Club will comply with all Moore School District policies and procedures.
