WINTERGUARD
The Winterguard is an extension of the colorguard program. They compete at a number of winterguard contests during the winter and spring months. Students who participate must be aware they are taking on a serious commitment, as they will be serving in the band as well as the guard. The students will need to put the appropriate amount of practice time and effort into both organizations.
HONOR BANDS
Students will have the opportunity to compete for a spot in the regional/state honor bands. Auditions for the All-Region Band are normally held in early November. First round auditions for OMEA All-State Band are held in conjunction with the OSCDA All-Region Band tryouts. Audition music is available in the spring of the previous school year. Final round for all-state band is normally held at Westmoore in early December.
SOLO & ENSEMBLEThey can also choose to participate in regional/state solo and ensemble contests. OSSAA Solo & Ensemble contest is normally held in late February / early March at Mustang High School. 10-12 grade students who score a superior rating here are eligible for State Solo & ensemble contest held later that spring.
SCHOOL MUSICAL
Each year, student members from the Band, Choir, and Drama departments combine to stage a school musical that performs for both the Westmoore student body and the general public. Rehearsals and performances are in addition to the normal responsibilities in the student's band program. However, participation in the school musical provides a valuable and worthwhile musical experience that is not offered with other performance opportunities. If you are interested in participating, contact Mrs. Taylor.
PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE
The Percussion Ensemble performs a wide-range of percussive repertoire, from classical to contemporary, to non-western styles and improvisation. It is open to all percussionists in the Westmoore Band Program. Students in the ensemble receive exposure to a variety of percussive instruments and a high value musical experience. For more information, contact Mr. Smith.
